Maybe the clouded leopard? They’re amazing in tonnes of different ways: they can turn their rear paws backwards and climb down trees headfirst, they have skulls (and canine teeth) like extinct sabre-tooth cats, and they are, scientifically, cute (it’s the way their faces are laid out). They’re vulnerable to extinction though, so we need to look after them 🙁
My other choice would be the water bear (aka the tardigrade). These microscopic little creatures live in moss and are more or less indestructible. One recent study by scientists in Oxford reckoned they’ll survive until some horrible catastrophe boils Earth’s oceans! You can watch one wandering around in its own microscopic way here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLj4tBp00wo

I’m going to go for the most beloved of animals on the internet: Cats! I have two cats, and until recently I had three, but one passed away last month. I still miss him 🙁
I’m pretty sure I’ll be one of those old cat ladies with 25 cats when I’m old. My mum’s working on it right now – she has three cats, but she also has a huge plastic storage cupboard outside her house where feral cats can go and sleep on warm rags. Lots of kittens have been born in that cupboard, and hedgehogs as well as cats stop by to snack on the cat biscuits that she leaves out. All my siblings have cats too. I think it’s in my blood 😀

Dogs, hands down. They’re fun, loving, loyal and smart.
I’d love a pet Fox if I could have one but I hear they’re kind of stinky.

Cuttlefish, octopuses, most cephalopods. Very smart, probably as clever as dogs. Also lots of them can change colour, and they use ink as a defensive weapon.

Owls. Seeing them hunt is impressive. And I like that they look so wise for some reason (big eyes maybe?)
