I didn’t do exams in the UK so it’s hard to compare directly. It’s also long enough ago that I don’t remember things all that well! I vaguely remember As in most of my subjects at the end of highschool (ugh, what a swot! 😉 ) and I definitely got a B- in Physics and a B in Maths. That’s reflecting the marks I got at the end, though – I didn’t do well at all the first couple of years because I wasn’t happy, didn’t fit in, and I skipped classes a lot. Things got better when I changed schools. I’d actually forgotten that I was intelligent, so figuring out I could get good marks again really encouraged me and helped me to start trying harder, which is why my results towards the end got better.

I did pretty well (quite a lot of As) in everything until my second year at uni when… things didn’t go well. I got 49% and 55% in the two exams I took and it was a real shock, especially as I was used to doing way better than that. But it was a helpful kick up the bum, and with some help and a lot more work I managed to rescue it all in the final year 🙂
