There’s a worm called the bone-eating snot flower worm, and it’s as odd as its name suggests – it hasn’t got a mouth, guts or an anus, and makes friends with bacteria to break down bones of animals like whales that fall to the bottom of the sea. You can read about them here: http://newenglandoceanodyssey.org/bone-eating-snot-flower-worms-the-name-says-it-all/
My second choice would be s hagfish. One of the best science things I’ve read in ages came about when a lorry carrying hagfish crashed on a motorway in America, damaging some cars and letting the hagfish escape. This ocean scientist interviewed himself about hagfish, and it’s fantastic. Please watch the videos of them producing their slime – it’s so, so weird http://www.southernfriedscience.com/your-car-has-just-been-crushed-by-hagfish-frequently-asked-questions/
How about the Tongue Eating Louse? it’s a parasite that replaces the tongue of fish. Look at a pic of it if you dare – it’s really freaky: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymothoa_exigua
If you like weird animals, check out strange_animals on twitter: https://twitter.com/Strange_Animals –
you’ll see that’s where I got the freaky louse, but there’s so much more, and many are really beautiful!
