Interesting question! Most technology makes our lives easier in some way, so it’s hard not to use it lots. We see the term ‘technology addiction’ and ‘internet addiction’ used in newspapers, and I think it just means when you are using technology/internet so much it becomes a bad effect on you. I think everything needs moderation, and with the portability of technology it’s tempting to never have a quiet moment, and I think this is how we’re supposed to be addicted to technology. We don’t like being bored!

A part of me also thinks this is perhaps just a common aversion to new and unfamiliar. Did you know that people once thought reading fiction was bad for you? They thought it would make your brain lazy by just giving you the ideas! Novels, TV, comic books, video games – most forms of entertainment at some point have been accused of rotting our brains in some ways. So while I have no doubt just spending all day distracted by the internet or some form of technology in our hands can be bad, there are definitely new and creative good sides too.
