Practical all the way! One of the most fun parts of my job is building designing new experiments, designing and building new equipment that lets me do those experiments, and then collecting data using them! Perhaps I should sit down and read and think a little more than I do though.

I really enjoy reading about other people’s findings and thinking about the debates that scientists have in my research area, but I think I’d get very bored if I wasn’t doing something to test it myself. So probably the practical side (though of course you need both, really!) 🙂

Most of what I do is practical work, so I must prefer it. However, I really enjoy the ‘eureka’ moments of understanding you get when studying theory. I like both!
