Question: Will you be at any science conventions this year?

I don’t know if it counts as a convention, but I’m going to a couple of conferences in January and February – the first one should be especially interesting, but I’m mainly hoping I’ll meet some nice people to talk to! It can be one of the really awkward things about these events… Most of the conferences I’ve been to so far have been fine because I’ve known people there, but I might not know many at the January one – wish me luck and hope I don’t go and hide at the snacks table or in the toilets!

No, I’ll mostly be in the lab! I need to gather more data if I want to show it at a conference or convention.
I’ll be doing quite a few public engagement events though – giving talks on the brain to the public! -

I think I’ve wrapped up with the conventions I’ve been to this year and we haven’t decided which ones (as a team) my work will be going to next year yet. This year, though, I went to Prague in the Czech republic to attend BOSC, a conference specifically dedicated to people who write open source biology code, and my team hosted a conference for all the people who user InterMine, the software I help write as part of my job. The InterMine conference was in California in March – so sunny and warm compared to the UK! It was also really good fun meeting all of the people who work on the same stuff as I do. Many of them I’d never met in person before, just on the internet!

you probable would die if you had no skin because you would get frost bite and you would freeze
